The Great Green March
We are 600 people walking, cycling and driving alternative fuel vehicles for 365 days from Portland, OR to Washington, D.C.
The Great Green March (GGM) is a nonprofit organization promoting a cultural shift toward a sustainable world through direct action and personal contact. Throughout history, marches have proven to be a powerful way to promote national awareness, cultural evolution, and important social changes.
We will live in a mobile Green City that moves 15-20 miles per day while crossing the country. Green City will emulate an actual city, complete with its own mayor, city council, and the infrastructure of a real town. Along the way we will hold a nationwide ‘conversation’ on sustainability - the way we all live and manage our resources.
The GGM will attract individuals, organizations, corporations, federal and local governments as co-participants. We will be connecting people and organizations to solutions; we will be tracking progress. We will highlight what is already sustainable while addressing green jobs, climate change, resource management, and future technologies. By the time we reach Washington D.C. we will have connected millions of people, directly and virtually.
